It all began at a conference in 2015 when Kate and Melissa got the wild idea to start a community for families striving to live more minimally and intentionally…
Actually, it goes a bit farther back than that. In 2013, Kate saw Melissa sitting at a children’s concert being held in a neighbor’s yard (yes, they both used to live in the coolest Oklahoma City ‘hood) and introduced herself. The two totally bonded over being self-proclaimed minimalists with a love of travel.
The two become super tight and when Melissa’s family moved to Germany in the summer of 2014, it wasn’t long before Kate and her crew got the itch to make a big leap as well, moving to a tiny, 675 sq. ft beach house on Lake Michigan in Northern Indiana.
In 2015, the two met up at a conference in Chicago. While there, they attended a break-out session on minimalism. Kate had a raging headache, but Melissa was curious, so the two staked out a corner in the back. Afterward, they struck up a convo with another mom who was lamenting how she had zero community by her that was interested in minimalism or living simply. Melissa suddenly blurted out:
We’ll be your community!
That sowed the seeds of Cohesive Home, and by the time the two were home from the conference, it was set in motion. Cohesive Home is now in its third year of being a community and podcast, with international Cohesive Homies groups, resources to support families on their journey to living simply, and a thriving collective of writers sharing their homes and experiences in our journal.
WHO WE ARE

WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that all families have a beautiful story woven into the DNA of their home. We believe that the home is the nucleus of that story and the center of a lifelong adventure together. We believe that living minimally--less stuff, less obligations, and less stress--creates a cohesive home. We believe in carefully choosing homes, jobs, schools, and activities that create freedom rather than burdens.
Here’s the deal: we’re not professional organizers, psychologists, or life coaches. We’re just normal moms who grew tired of lives that felt like a too small shoe, desiring instead a beautifully simply life and home. We are lazy minimalists, and we’ve learned through experience how to simplify a family home AND keep the kids happy. We truly believe that getting rid of all of the clutter--physical and mental--allows the authentic version of your family to flourish.
If you’re looking for an expert to tell you 10 ways to declutter your house, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you want support from a community of like-minded families, we’ve got you. If you’re looking for minimalist decorating advice and how-tos for creating the perfect white box empty house, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you’re dying to see how real people actually create simple homes AND live in them, we’ve got you.
